Hi all! I am a second-year law student at Columbia Law School. I decided to take the Japanese class this semester because I hope to have the opportunity to practice US law in Japan in the future and it will be great if I can communicate with my clients in their native language!

As you may notice from my blog title, I am a big fan of a recent Japanese TV show called "Legal High" (リーガル ハイ). I really love the main character in the show played by Masato Sakai. I hope that one day I can watch and understand the show without looking at the subtitle! But I know that it will take a long time for me to reach that level.

With respect to the Japanese class, I really enjoy it so far. Our sensei is super nice, friendly, and helpful and the teaching material and method are very engaging and interesting. I hope that I can continue to study Japanese!

「リーガル・ハイ」 は、とってもおもしろいですよね!わたしも それを みました。I guess that drama would be very useful for your study, as there are lots of expressions for court battles. Do you want to become a lawyer like Komikado? また おはなし きかせてくださいね。TAほり

    1. Hi Jun San, konnichiwa! Thank you for your comment! I really appreciate it. I think legal high is a very good show in that it conveys a very realistic and insightful picture on how legal system works not only in Japan but also in any other country through a comical and approachable way. Regardless of his obsession with "okane", Komikado sensei is a very experienced lawyer who has a very deep understanding of the legal system and the way to navigate it. It very well captures the various limitations and inner struggle of a lawyer in different situations and touches upon some of the fundamental ironies that exist in the "justice" mechanism. I look forward to the third season.
